Welcome to Pack 712!
In Cub Scouting, Scouts and their families have fun and on exciting new adventures in a program that builds character and instills value. Cub Scouting embraces the values of the Scout Law, encouraging Scouts to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. These values are delivered in all parts of the Cub Scout program - all while the Scouts are having a great time with their friends and families.
Cub Scouting is part of the Scouts of America (BSA) program, available to boys and girls from kindergarten through fifth-grade. Pack 712 is chartered through the Silver Springs PTA. The Cub Scouting program takes place at two levels. Your child will be a part of a Den, based on grade levels: Lions (kindergarten), Tigers (first grade), Wolves (second grade), Bears (third grade), Webelos (fourth grade), and Arrow of Light (fifth grade). Dens meet under the direction of the adult Den Leaders monthly, or more often depending on the den. Regardless of when a scout joins, they work to earn the Bobcat Badge first. An older Scout holding the den chief position may assist the den leader in activities. Once a month, all of the dens, with their families, join together at the Pack Meeting, where Scouts show off the new skills they have learned during the month and are recognized for the badges they have earned. Our pack meetings are typically the third Thursday of the month, from 7:00pm-8:00pm in the Silver Springs Multi-Purpose Room. The pack is led by a Cubmaster with one or more Assistant Cubmasters. The Pack Committee is a group of adults, led by the Committee Chairman, who plan the pack's programs and activities and manage record keeping, finance, leadership recruitment and registration. Please see the "Parent's Role in Scouting" for information on how you are a part of the pack as well. |
Advancement in Cub ScoutingYour scout will work with their den and family to complete the required adventures for each rank. Den leaders will keep a record of your Scout's progress in Scoutbook. All parents are actively encouraged to monitor their Scout's progress as well.
Each month at the pack meeting, the Scouts will be recognized for the adventures that have been completed. Pack ActivitiesYour Scout's den will be having adventures together, but the entire pack will also take part in many activities that include the whole family. We have separate tabs for most of them here. Some examples include the annual Pinewood Derby race, camping, Blue & Gold Banquet, overnights, hayride, day camp, community service, rocket launches and parades.
